Official opening of the Hillcrest Centennial Park

On June 19, 1914, 189 men were killed in what would become Canada’s Worst Underground Mine Disaster. The Hillcrest Mine Disaster Committee will officially open the latest edition to the Hillcrest Commemorative Cemetery – the Centennial Park. Enjoy a peaceful walk on a self-guided interpretive path highlighting the incredible story of the victims, survivors and families involved in this tragedy. While in the area explore this amazing story through our new interactive exhibit at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre: Voices of Disaster: The Hillcrest Experience. The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre will also offer special interpretive presentations, prop talks on underground mine lamps and audio-visual presentations all highlighting this amazing and tragic story
Crowsnest Pass Doors Open & Heritage Festival

The Crowsnest Pass is excited to launch its eleventh annual Doors Open and Heritage Festival weekend. Our theme for the next two years will be Outlaws and Lawmen: Rum Running in Crowsnest Pass, with 2016 focusing on the Outlaws. Throughout the weekend, the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and the community of the Crowsnest Pass will be highlighting the story of the Rum Runners. Enjoy guided hikes, presentations and events highlighting the Crowsnest Pass and the amazing stories of Emilio Picarello, the Red and Black Routes and the Whiskey Six, just to name a few.
