On June 19, 1914, 189 men were killed in Canada’s Worst Mine Disaster. The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre will offer special interpretive presentations, prop talks on underground mine lamps, and audio-visual shows all highlighting this tragic accident. While at the Centre, explore the heart-rending story through an interactive exhibit: Voices of Disaster: The Hillcrest Experience.

The Crowsnest Pass is excited to launch its 12th annual Doors Open and Heritage Festival weekend. Our theme will be Lawmen: Rum Running in the Crowsnest Pass. Throughout the weekend, the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and the community of Crowsnest Pass will be highlighting the story of the rum runners and the policemen who pursued them. Enjoy guided hikes, presentations and events highlighting the Crowsnest Pass and the amazing stories of Emilio Picariello, the Red and Black Routes, and the Whiskey Six, just to name a few. 109th Anniversary of the Frank SlideFrank Slide Interpretive Centre celebrates Canada’s 150th

Monday, August 7, 2017

Come celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. Enjoy face painting, caricature artists, guided hikes and musical entertainment. Join a guided bus tour following the history of the police in the Crowsnest Pass, highlighting the famous shoot out at the Alberta Provincial Police Barracks that ended with the death of Constable Lawson. Join Alberta Park Educators at a display revealing tips and tricks to enjoying the wilderness and camping without putting yourself or wildlife in challenging situations, or join in on a Mad Science fun workshop. All this and more!
