Friends of Rutherford House Society

The Friends of Rutherford House Society seeks to generate community involvement, creative ideas, and additional revenues to support Alberta Culture and Tourism in the operation of Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site as a museum and popular public venue.

In April of 1985, the Friends of Rutherford House was created as a charitable society intended to assist in the preservation of the house and to enhance educational, cultural and recreational activities of the visiting public. Over its long history of not-for-profit, heritage-based work, the Society, working closely with the provincial government, has contributed in many ways to the preservation and operation of Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site. The Society assisted with the fund raising for: the restoration of the Delta Upsilon multipurpose room, the restoration of the maid’s quarters, the publication of “Gentleman of Strathcona”, the purchase of items for the house, and the Chancellor’s garden project.

Please note, while the Society no longer operates the Arbour Room Restaurant and the WhatNot Gift Shop, they continue to provide private booking services. New booking information and booking request forms can be found at www.rutherfordhouse.ca.

A volunteer Board of Directors oversees operation of the Society and ensures the interest of the membership are represented.
