Historical Tour

Rutherford House Tour

Choice of: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced
1 hour duration (additional time and cost will be added if baking or croquet is requested)

This tour provides ESL students with a glimpse into the lives of the Rutherford family and their contributions to the community. Set against the backdrop of this beautiful Edwardian-era mansion, students will be introduced to an important piece of Alberta's history. Depending on class size, this program can be adapted to include additional activities, such as baking cookies or playing croquet, and can involve a seasonal theme.

Dramatic Programs

Our dramatic programs transport students into the year 1916 and provide students with a great opportunity to develop their conversational skills. Costumed interpreters and improvised dialogue bring their journey through the past to life.

Upstairs, Downstairs

Recommended for intermediate to advanced conversation classes
1 hour duration

The Rutherfords welcome you into their home. Students arrive as guests for one of Mrs. Rutherford's "At Home" tea parties, and settle in to discuss the war, the latest fashions, or the new movie at the Princess Theatre with a member of the Rutherford household. A mix-up brings the guests into the kitchen with the maid and they will visit parts of the house the public was never meant to see. Explore life in 1916, upstairs and downstairs.
